Geothermal energy pros and cons and cost of geothermal energy have been discussed on this site. Let’s look at five of the many facts associated with geothermal energy.

Facts about Geothermal Energy for use

1.	Geothermal Energy is energy generated or source from the earth’s surface. The energy source is renewable as the earth continually reserves heat gain from sun.

2.	Geothermal energy supplies about 6% of the world’s energy. The growth in utilizing the energy source has been associated with the green movement. Usage of the source is predicted to produce 10% of the world electricity by 2050.

3.	Geothermal Power is one of the energy source considered environmentally friendly. A geothermal power plant releases about three percent of carbon dioxide emissions of a fossil fuel plant. As well the power stations are small, thus a lesser impact to landscape and environment than let’s say a hydroelectric plant.

4.	Geothermal energy has been proven to be a reliable energy source. Iceland has used geothermal energy to supply much of their country. The energy source is capitalized on due to the area heavy volcanic activity and energy producing potential.

5.	Accessing geothermal energy can be difficult depending on your location. An ideal location for harvesting geothermal power is open spaced area that allows for laying various piping.

Energy can be generated from many different sources. Energy is use to provide the electricity needs of the world’s growing communities and industries. The increasing demand for cheap and dependable energy sources has introduced wind energy as a real alternative to gas and other sources. The pros and cons of wind energy has been debated and now you can join in the conversation

Pros of Wind Energy

•	Wind energy is a proving source of alternative energy- For more than a hundred years mankind has been utilizing wind power and its usage span countries like U.S., Germany, Spain and India.

•	Wind energy is a renewable source of energy. Wind is a naturally occurring phenomenon that can always be leveraged to provide energy. Providing that there large electric grids, the ability to produce high amounts of electricity is always available.

•	The energy source is considered quite inexpensive compared to others. Unlike fossil fuels and coal, the supply is unlimited and requires no work (expense) to locate. Building wind farms require a budget but compared to other energy sources it is considered cost effective. The source is free and available communities and farmers alike. Another aspect to consider is large scale wind production will become cheaper and cheaper as the technology matures and mass production of the blades become routine.

•	Wind power is a clean source of energy. There are no harmful emissions and materials that are produce when generating electricity. This source is even more environmentally friendly than hydroelectric energy, where dams tend to affect the eco system of animals and plants.

•	Wind power can help to meet the global energy demand. International governments are committed to different agreements which they promise to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Therefore individual countries are committed to mandatory renewable energy targets in which solar and wind power are prevalent. With the right support, it is predicted that wind power can provide 28% of European Union electrical demand by 2030.

Unlike some other sources of energy, wind energy is available to be sourced by homeowners. Commercial wind turbine can be bought or homemade turbine can be made to provide power to homes.

Cons of Wind Energy

•	Wind turbines are open to environment therefore easily affected by storms, lightening and other natural calamities. As well the equipment structure needs continual maintenance due to wear –and- tear.
•	Wind Energy production of electricity can be inconsistent. Wind power in an environment fluctuates in speed and flow thus affecting the amount of wind that can be re-purpose to electricity.
•	Some people consider wind turbine to be a pollutant. The turbines produce sound that reach 50 to 60 decibel creating noise pollution. Also, the turbine has been known to produce fatalities of birds that hit their rotating turbine. Additionally, wind farms damage the landscape.
Learning about the pros and cons of wind energy is the first step deciding whether to invest in this form of energy generation. Now you should consider the different factors of your environment and home to note whether you would buy a turbine kit or create a homemade wind turbine. Whatever the choice, it is a good decision because you chose renewable energy.

They are many different opinions on solar energy and whether it is right for a specific type of homeowner but let’s discuss solar energy facts. By learning the facts about solar energy, the information can give you a greater understanding of the uses for solar and how to utilize the energy source.

Solar energy is renewable energy which means it is replenish thus infinite

Horace de Saussure invented the first collector of solar power in the 18th century (Leonardo de Vinci heated water using concave mirrors during the fourteen hundreds)

Solar system have solar panels that capture sun’s rays and the energy is stored in batteries then further converted to electrical energy

Photovoltaic cells are still the most instrumental tool to convert rays from the sun into electricity

Solar Energy, unlike other energy sources, is not pollutant and thus considered eco-friendly and friend of the green movement

Solar energy is used to heat water, power attic fans, power appliances, produce lights and power cars

Solar Energy is emerging as the number one alternative energy source for homeowners and energy providers. The availability of the source and its relatively inexpensive cost compared to other alternative energy has played a crucial role in solar popularity. However, consumer should always consider the advantages and disadvantages of solar energy when attempting to choose an energy source for their home.

Disadvantages of Solar Energy

Installing solar systems in a home come with a cost. The cost includes installing the panels, the wiring of the panels and the labor require to perform the prior operation. Solar panels come in all types of sizes that give different output of energy. Consumers can purchase solar panel kits and install the panels themselves. Some homeowners also build the panels themselves to save on cost.

Although solar energy output with the right system can be immense, many homeowners employ small solar system that does not supply enough energy for all their energy needs. Therefore, using power from the national grid is still a expense for the home.

Location is a great determinant for the success of any solar system. The logical reasoning being the availability of sunlight for the conversion to useful energy. Areas where sunlight is lacking, like regions with extended rainy season, would not be ideal for harnessing the sun’s energy. Solar power can be utilized in places that are shady due to clouds, but the energy output would be far less than sunny areas.

Advantages of Solar Energy

Solar Energy does not impact the environment negatively, thus the term eco-friendly is associated with it. As well the green movement and its consumers have highlighted the need for greater solar technology which industries have responded with a wide range of products from rv solar kits to solar chargers.

Sunlight is free, found everywhere and thus not have any cost associated with finding or distributing it like other energy sources.

Solar Energy one of the most reliable energy source. Firstly, solar power is a renewable resource meaning it is always available and its quantity is not being reduced after being harnessed. Secondly, solar system performs is all types of weather conditions as long as sunlight is available.

DIY Solar Systems are available to homeowners. There is great information available on how to build a solar system for your home online. Solar system requires little maintenance and limited moving parts. The system safety rating is very high due to low number of moving parts and small quantity of fuel associated with the system

Advantages and Disadvantages of solar energy will always exist when comparing to other energy sources, however with time solar systems technology are greatly improving and becoming cheaper yet more efficient. Adding to the incentive to utilize solar in homes is government tax rebate and energy providers’ subsidies.

Solar Energy Pros and Cons- What to Know To Make An Informed Decision

Solar Energy is the energy source of now and the future. Solar as a source of power is growing in popularity and expanding to be the number one alternative energy. The energy source is widely recognized by homeowners and big industries.

Solar Energy Pros

Solar energy is a renewable energy source. Renewable sources replenish themselves hence always available to be harnessed. Therefore, with the right tools and equipment homeowners can always power their homes via the right amount of solar energy.

Solar energy is very Eco-friendly and harnessing of the energy has little to no environmental impact.

Many energy sources exist only in specific areas of the earth. For this reason fossil fuels and other sources are difficult to locate. Solar energy, however, can be found everywhere thus have no cost associated with locating it.

Sunlight is free, thus available for all to use. This is very different from other sources that belong to governments and other owners.

Solar systems can be easily installed by homeowners and for those that are not into diy projects many qualified personnel are available to hire.

Small solar systems require little maintenance and have a few moving parts like the fan and pumps associated with the system. The only maintenance is occasional cleaning and inspection of the system

The fact that solar systems do not have much moving parts or uses much fuel increases its safety rating as an energy source.

Solar systems are quite and do not cause any type of noise pollution.

Solar systems are reliable and performs in most weather condition providing sunlight availability

Solar Energy Cons

The initial cost of solar energy for homes can be expensive. The cost includes the solar panel kits and the labor to install the system

Most small solar systems are not stand alone or sole energy source for a home. The energy source is rarely efficient enough, or powerful enough to provide all your energy needs. One of the main reason is the process of storing energy because the solar can only be harnessed at daytime

Although solar energy can be found everywhere, some locations offer limited sunlight thus not feasible for solar harnessing. These include areas where the rainy season is extended or winter heavy regions

Any energy source comes with its pros and cons and solar is no different. As seen from above the sources pro greatly outweigh the negative. Solar energy will only improve in time when technology becomes cheaper and more effective.

Advantages of Geothermal Energy

The Energy source can be utilized and maintained by homeowners- Servicing of geothermal systems are minimal which translate to lower operational cost. The operational life of the internal components of the system is around 25 years and 40 years for the ground loop

Geothermal Energy is a Renewable source- The energy source will always be available and disposable because of just like the earth continually replenishes our water supply through rain similarly the earth’s crust constantly produces heat.

Homeowners that utilize the source can receive tax rebate and credits- Many states have introduced incentives for homeowners to benefit from the energy. The tax rebate tries to reduce the upfront cost of the system; as well Energy providers are known to issue subsidies of over $3000.00 to homeowners.

Geothermal Energy produces little to no environmental impact- One of the biggest issues with fossil fuels were harmful emissions that created acid rain which geothermal energy reduces by 97%

Proven energy source- the source has been used for hundreds of years heating baths, preparing meals and heating homes and buildings

Cools and Heats home

Disadvantages of Geothermal Energy

Installation can be difficult- Long pipes are used in the installation process; therefore some densely populated areas will prove difficult for the task.

Cost of geothermal energy to install- The installation and operating equipment can be rather costly upfront. If your region does not have many geothermal energy supported homes it can be difficult locating qualified personnel to do the job.

Not completely environmentally friendly- Geothermal system operates using refrigerants to power the pump for its cooling process. Many homeowners also draw energy from the national grid to power the pump (alternative are solar panels).

Geothermal Energy is a form of energy that is generated by thermal power that is stored within the earth’s crust. Most of the geothermal energy is generated from radioactive decay of minerals. In order to utilize this renewable resource we must analyze the cost of geothermal energy and if the energy source is cost effective.

Geothermal Energy Cost

Geothermal energy cost can be analyzed from two different perspectives due to the types of usage for the source. These two perspectives are residential and industrial geothermal energy. For the purpose of the site we shall discuss the perspective that addresses homeowners and their need of homemade power.

Residential Cost of Geothermal Energy

Firstly, in order to set up geothermal at home or office one of the most challenging factors is to locate qualified personnel for the job. Experts in the field are specialized and can charge some major figures to carry out your project.

Another costly upfront expense is the installation of geothermal heat pumps. The cost of the heat pumps is based on several factors. These factors are the where you live, the ground to be drilled, and the square foot of house. Many systems cost twice that of a regular heat pump system with air condition. A geothermal heat pump system costs about $2000 per ton of capacity, where the average home needing a three ton unit costing about $6,000 to $7,000. The installation includes pipes, other equipment and varying soil condition which can bump the cost to $10,000 or more.

The cost can also be decreased by subsidy from electric company which is usually about $2500. The EPA states that geothermal heat pumps save homeowners 30 to 70 percent on heating and 20 to 50 percent on cooling costs over conventional systems. Average consensus is the roi will take about 5-10 years but this form can prove a great financial decision for long-term home owners. Additionally, star-rated ground heat pumps may qualify for federal tax credits.

Also, geothermal heating does not require a lot of maintenance thus reducing your long term cost. The system has few mechanical problems and the underground pipes are guaranteed to last 25 to 50 years.

The cost of geothermal energy with its long term value and eco-friendly nature is a good fit for most homeowners. 95% of heat pumps owners would recommend the system to friends and family.

Solar chargers supply energy to devices. Majority of solar chargers are portable and generally cater to outdoor activities. Most portable chargers can only receive energy from the sun. The solar mobile charger has risen to prominence and is one of the fastest growing consumer based product within the solar charger niche.

They are two general types of mobile phone chargers: internal rechargeable batteries and small solar panel/unit. The internal rechargeable batteries collect energy from the sun and the energy recharges its batteries, and then this energy is channeled to your device (when connected). The small portable solar panels are considered more powerful and have the ability for greater energy output.

The panels collect light and convert it to energy, and this energy is stored in “Battery on Board” section of the panels. The portable solar panels are fitted as flod up amps, fold up mats, padded cases and even backpack for a more accessible product.

Solar cell phone chargers come in different shapes and configurations; some phone chargers are folded and or rotating. Some of the newer models of GSM cell phones have a built-in solar charger, thus the devices retain their charged throughout the day.

As mentioned earlier, the chargers are used for outdoor activities. These include camping, hiking or when doing work in the garden. I would also recommend solar mobile chargers to persons traveling overseas to remote locations.

Questions to ask before choosing a solar charger

Does the solar charger charges as quickly as the standard wall charger? The answer is a crucial factor because we are looking at convenience charging, therefore you need a charger that allows charge, talk and surf simultaneously.

Does the charger has internal batteries that easily wear out? Buying batteries and products over and over again is not ideal; we need an item that can last a few years.

Is the size of the charger convenient-thin, lightweight? Outdoor activities by nature allow for a backpack and a tent, thus the item should ideally be small enough for the backpack.
Does the charger incorporate a universal USB port? You’re in need of a charger that can energize any type of mobile phone and not one that is selective to models.

How powerful is the charger, would I be able to maximize or manage the fluctuating sun energy throughout the day? Solar power fluctuates throughout the day and is limited on shady days. You need a charger that performs effectively during minimal sunlight and charge your phone in the least amount of time.

Some of the best solar battery charges are solar, premium solar charger, and revive series solar restore. In respect of portable solar panels, I would say Sunforce 50013, the sCharger-5, Goal10 12301 Nomad 7M and 4 Battery Solar Charge are best. Solar mobile phone chargers are widely available online. I would recommend researching the model type you are interested in before buying.

You have bought a beautiful RV and it is one of the best adventures in your life journey. You are free to travel about the country; waking in a different location every morning. Yet there is one heavy burden that creates a realm of reality within your dream. Driving through the desert, camping in the woods, “Honey don’t forget we need to go get some diesel for the generators, the batteries are low” a big slap to reality. Well what if I told you there is a way to travel anywhere within the country and power your RV with only 5 hours of daylight? Would you investigate this very real concept? Let me introduce RV Solar Kits.

What You Should Know About RV Solar Kits!

Enough with the “sales” type lingo, let’s talk RV kits. Firstly there is no better time than now to take advantage of solar kit. Prices of the items are at its cheapest and there are tax rebate and subsidies available. Even kits from foreign market are high quality and in a huge supply due to those countries dropping their subsidies programs. As well renewable energy technology is improving and there has been a change to a more efficient smart grid.

I know many of you are searching for an independent source of energy that last for weeks and is easily maintained. However, some are seeking simply to prolong the battery life. RV Solar Kits are of different scales and can provide energy in both instances.

How to save with RV solar panels kits?

Of importance to note is that the solar kits will pay for themselves in electricity cost savings. Many have reached the full payback period in less than a year.

Quality/Efficiency

10-25%

Amorphous cells more efficient than polycrystalline cells

Make sure manufacturer guarantees efficiency for at least 15 years and warranties on breaks in cell

Maintenance/ Upkeep

Mount system correctly

Keep panels clean

No obstruction of panels

How much power does it take to supply and RV? 12 Volt systems?

The supply needed depends on the different appliances. One should check online the amount of amps use by these items. An average 80 –watt RV solar kit provide panels that generates 25-35 amps per hour.

Once the decision on how many panels are needed, the next step is to choose how to install it. The flat panels work well but angled panels receive the best sunlight, however angled panels increase wind resistance and affect navigation of an RV.

Choose Mobile Solar Energy Kits instead of Homemade Panels which then are installed on roof

Small panels instead of large panels like on homes

Kits come with full installation processes

Panels could be taking of with ease and no drilling necessary for mounting(drilling mars the rv)

One should always perform all the necessary research then select the best RV solar kits system that is proper for their RV. You will surely get the system that produces the most electricity and that can pay back for itself in no time.

In this age of destructive industrial energy sources, many are searching for supplies that are environmentally friendly and are in abundance.

One such solution is that of wind energy that blows freely and is generated naturally. However, most citizens are familiar with windmills of the past and not knowledgeable of diy wind turbine.

Why You Should Choose DIY WIND TURBINE

Windmill vs. Diy Wind Turbine

Bulky and take up a lot of landscape

State of the Art- lighter and no need for high tower

Inefficient

Very efficient- generate electricity for small cities

Complex Operation

Easily operated

Expensive

Inexpensive- few hundreds

First off persons considering diy wind turbine will need usual tools found in a workshop. In order to cut expenses materials can be acquired from a recycling center, but for a few hundred a complete unit could be bought.

Click here for the COMPLETE diy Guide to Building a Wind Turbine

A major benefit as noted in table 1.0 is that a high tower that supports the blades is not necessary; therefore modern turbine can be built on the roof with a secure frame.

The next step is that of mounting the blade and gearing of the frame. There are many kits available online; one should be keen on those that are well referenced but best practice is to go check out a operating system. One should never neglect or forget to always see a already existing project before taking any action. Here one can get answers to question you would not think to ask.

As well before starting the project, an energy audit should be conducted in order to make use of energy saving practices.

Many that are in your shoes and have already finished the journey realized that investigating noise restrictions, building codes and where the established winds come from are sometimes more important than knowledge of how to set up the system.

Installation of DIY wind turbine

The installation of diy wind turbine may take only a few short days. This is of course if you’re using a kit and not starting everything from scratch. The blades are one of the main accessories and can be made from wood or fiber composite that are cheaper and not as noisy like metal blades. An efficient diy wind turbines needs a tail assembly that focus the system in the breeze direction and can be made with basic woodwork or engineering skills.

Gearing and the DC can be purchase through many online properties. Non -electrician should consider hiring a electrician in the final stages of wiring for a proper insulated system. The process is a very simple process but is very real and of course can be dangerous. Access should be restricted from children due to the deadly blades and the tower should not be able to be climbed. The use of fencing is recommended and security lighting for those thinking the structure is some sort of play area.

When considering installing solar panels the cost is usually the first aspect that is reflected upon. Solar panels would cost less than the cost of utility bills for a year and it is environmentally friendly. Additional, in many states there are incentives such as rebates and tax breaks.

Solar panel installation is increasing very rapidly. Two reasons being that solar panels are great for providing electricity to remote location and after installation they require minimal maintenance. The location of panels is also beneficial because by being installed on the roof no new special area is needed.

As mention earlier, cost of the panels is a major factor when considering installing solar panels. The complete solar systems could be very expensive and smaller scale systems are more affordable. However there is a more economic means to create that solar efficient home. Yep, do-it-yourself solar panels installation has penetrated the energy landscape and many homeowners have incorporated the system to their home. This method should save you a lot of money because professional installers are very expensive yet not really necessary. The best option is to acquire a detail diy solar installation guide that includes videos that follows a thorough step by step process. This guide can be found online or in home improvement magazines. Many guides would also include information on utilizing other power sources like wind turbine.

Diy solar panel installation is economical and in accordance with best practice to sustain our environment. For all those seeking an answer to end the stresses of a high utility bill, solar panel installation is one of the resounding opportunities.

Solar thermal electricity is a very unique energy system due to its production abilities to being generated wherever there is sunlight.

Benefits and future of solar thermal electricity:

The energy source is free

Technology allows for easy conversions to electricity for household use

Technology constantly improves- better photovoltaic cells and batteries that are cheaper and more efficient

Systems will get more and more easier to set up

Before any solar installation is carried out a electricity audit should be carried out and the extent of passive solar designs should be maximized. Simple designs include:

Insulation of halls and roofs

All light bulbs should be energy efficient bulbs

Appliances should be able to be turn off at the wall

Of all the alternative energy sources solar thermal electricity does the least damage to the environment. Traditional wind turbines are very noisy and the geo thermal plants use a lot of piping that affects the land area serviced. Solar thermal power is clean energy with no pollution and other negative effects during operation.

When utilizing solar thermal power, there may be little changes necessary for existing homes. Some changes would be a roof replacement in order to support the system and to gather enough sunlight. As well, there would be need for a flat ground area for housing of the batteries- few square feet. The solar thermal electricity system is light and can be assembled by average persons willing to work in a workshop.

The creation of the energy system is simple and economical. T he purpose is to lower electricity and to one day become independent for external energy supply.

The one truly downside of using thermal power electricity is that of disposing of the storage batteries. In comparison to all other energy systems the cost to maintain and service the system is minimal.

Solar thermal electricity has been tested through many decades. I t has been proven to work in environment as harsh as space. Many small units has changed the landscape of isolated communities by providing electricity in those harsh environments. Solar thermal electricity systems have provided enough supply of energy for households even on cloudy days.

Solar electricity systems have entered a new era where by it improves the value of households and is an important design feature.

It is noted that solar thermal electricity has become far cheaper today than a few years ago. Prevailing reason is as more people choose the source, the industries itemize the technology as a productive future causing the equipment to become cheaper, more efficient and easier to install. Additionally, the suppliers are easily found in your area which can motivate and inspire once seen.

Solar thermal electricity is right for many persons. This list includes those just seeking to lower the utility bill, as well home owners wanting to be self reliant and securing ones home for future generations.

Utilizing solar power/energy via solar panels is an alternative that will curtail your energy consumption bills. Solar panels allow its user to store solar energy which is then use for residential or personal uses. The items needed to build a Solar panel are sold in Kits that can be costly; however, a consumer can choose to purchase a do-it-yourself Kit which is cheaper than a readymade Kit. The cost of Solar Panel Kits becomes economical when a consumer examines the high return on their investment. Some consumers have reported 50% deduction in energy consumption bill after using a Solar Panel.

Solar Panel Kits Assembly

Soldering iron

Interconnection material

Flux

Solar cells

Instruction manual

It is advisable that you hire a electrician if you have no experience in electrical wiring in order to hook the system up properly. However for those that are into do-it-yourself projects, it would not be a difficult process. The different solar panel kits vary in prices; but the main determinant in higher cost is the amount of solar panels included which provide for higher energy wattage. The better of the kits are those that are weatherproof. This feature allow for a more reliable panel that gather energy in any light condition.

It would take several solar panels to provide energy for a regular household, more than what is provided in a Solar Panel kits. The Kit is sufficient though for providing full power to boats, RV’s, small cabins; and supplemental power to appliances and backup power when there is power outage. Is the kit worth it cost if it provides so little power? To answer, a solar Panel Kit that is sold for $600.00 will provide power to operate a portable stereo for 100 hours, a 12-watt fluorescent light bulb for 80 hours, and a laptop computer for 40 hours, or a 20-inch TV for 20 hours. The benefits of a solar panel kits surely outweighs the cost in the long run, not only would you save on your utility bills but you would play apart in saving the world.

What do you do when there is a shining sun yet the only cloud in the sky is that utility bill that seem to constantly rise month in month out?

The obvious answer is to reduce your use of utilities. This feat can be done by creating solar panels for your home and here are some pointers that can help.
One can find online discounts on materials to lower the overall construction cost. As well, they are suppliers that offer all the materials and know how to complete the job.

Tools of the trade

Can you get your hands on a hammer, saw, screw driver, knife and soldering iron? If you can’t, then a visit to a nearby workshop would change that. These tools would be enough to create solar panels for your home.

Materials Needed

The material list would tend to be longer but you can find timber to make the different frames for erecting the panels on the roof and screws along with wood panels in order to housed the cells.

Pre tabbed Photo-voltaic cells and tab wiring to connect them

Eva glue

Solder and flux

Plastic sheeting ( use for blocking diodes to prevent current backflow and cover lid of the housing

Project Commences

Grab a cup of coffee sit back, and then decide where the panels are going to be erected. It is necessary that you find a south facing slope of 30 degrees that has direct path to sunshine with no shade or near any natural pest. For construction purposes the area should allow easy access of wiring to storage battery area.

When building solar panels for your home, you should designate a weekend to clear workshop in order remove all the dust. The cells are then established to the backing board in rows (usually of6x6).

Assembly Project

Cell tabs and wire should be join

Add blocking diodes and cable to connect to storage batteries

Cover with plastic lid

Seal whole unit with the silicone grouting

Insulate the rear of the housing

Paint housing black except for lid- unit efficiency

Mount panels

Due to the height and the heavy lifting factors, it is best the job be done by two persons.

If the whole DIY project seems to be too much, you could purchase a kit set or a complete unit. I would recommend you finding and conversing with someone that already has a solar power unit installed.

Building solar panels for your home is survival technology that would give homeowners a sense of accomplishment and true independence in times when supply power are unreliable.

Statement on Energy production

Energy production used in your home comes mainly from the use of fossil fuels and nuclear reaction processes. This production is damaging to the environment due to nuclear wastes, carbon emission and other pollutants. A major problem is that the sources of supply are dwindling and will soon be finished. Therefore, household consumers of energy must find more energy efficient and more plentiful supply of energy.

Reasons to utilize solar power

Solar energy is a source that has the potential to be the home alternative energy. The sun constantly replenishes itself and is available in large quantities. Differing from most forms of non-renewable energy, solar energy (renewable energy) is created and consumed where it is used; which would mean more jobs locally or in the country.

They are many great reasons for solar energy to be the best home alternative energy, but increasing savings on your utility bill is one of the main ones. Not only does solar energy reduce your bill, but may well leave you independent from a utility company, creating a more valuable home.

Uses for Solar Power

Many people believe the only way you can use home alternative energy is to heat water and to generate electricity. However, it can be use to cook, pump water, heat the swimming pool/spa as and as landscape lighting.

There are different choices and scales when dealing with solar energy for homes. You could opt for small solar projects as in solar lights and solar cookers or much more grand installation like full scale photo-voltaic solar generators.

When designing your home, you can choose to take on passive solar designs. If your garden and home is design well you could reduce cooling and heating bill tenfold. In using home alternative energy, you could save from not maintaining and purchasing new equipment.

Many who utilize passive solar designs see a more efficient home than those that install solar home technologies.

Solar Home Technology

Photovoltaic cells or PV’S as they’re referred, are used in home alternative energy. Photovoltaic cells are semi conductors that have two layers of silicon. It’s not important for you to know the ins and outs about PV cells, however it is extremely important that your contractor does.

For those persons that just love a do-it-yourself project on the go, then doing a home alternative energy solar project might just take your fancy. Many projects are available online that would hardly take any time and are fun activity.
Utilizing home alternative energy is a great idea, and you may even like to take advantage of both solar and wind power technology.

Home alternative energy could become a costly investment. Why not take advantage of the tax credit and subsidies available? There is a plethora of information available on the Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy www.dsireusa.org and you can find out exactly what subsidies and incentives are available for your area.

The technological process in which the energy from the sun is converted to electrical energy has rapidly developed that many people have decided to try it for themselves.

No. 1 Advantage

The biggest advantage for making homemade solar panels would be that the owner will learn how to fix and sustain them when they become damaged. This is a major plus for the owner especially since solar panels are used primarily in isolated places. The panels are easy to transport since they weight little to nothing, except for the batteries. Additionally, when setting them up you don’t need any specific knowledge about them as well as electrical.

Without a doubt the most efficient way is to seek someone with the knowledge and background of solar panels to set them up for you. There are many pitfalls to using homemade solar panels yet it is very beneficial for your home.

IT’S IMPORTANT to Buy US produced materials.

Even though the materials are easily accessible, the range of cells may confuse the novice. Firstly, photo-voltaic cells are easiest to work and are not costly. The usage of wax dipped or ‘b’ grade are not recommended, because the outcome will not produce the intended results.

Also products imported from countries like China are not up to standard and there often times unreliable in terms of delivery. The construction of homemade solar panels is done in a very dry and dusspace.

Tool Required to build homemade solar panels

Hammer

screwdriver

paintbrush

soldering iron

saw

In addition to those, timber is needed to make the frame for the placing of panels on the roof. Other materials required to build homemade solar panels are wood panels with some screws are needed to make a base for the cells and black paint so as to absorb the sun’s energy.

Another method needed is photo-voltaic cells and tab wiring to attached together. It is more efficient if you select pre-tabbed cells so as to make the project less boring and faster.

Building homemade solar panels .

Process

Get your hands on solder, some eva glue and flux

Plastic sheeting is needed to cover up the top or the lid of the housing- sheeting blocks diodes and prevent current back flow

Make an outer housing and seal with silicone filler

Cells should be laid on backing board and glue in a 6×6 arrangement with tabs upwards

A series of the tabs should be made with solder and tab wiring adding the diodes to prevent current reversal when the unit is receiving minimal sunshine.

The panel should be placed in the housing, cover and seal with the plastic cover material

After painted ( help heat absorption) Add to roof frame

Homemade solar panels will look professional and the output will only vary slightly from those install installed by experts. Avoid high expectations in respect to the amount of energy you get from the panels because results depends on lots of factors, including amount of sunshine, will determine how good any system works.

It is good practice to perform a energy audit before the project starts. Many household are better off engaging in energy saving practices before homemade solar panels are installed.

Turning the energy from the sun into a benefit for the homeowner is a fairly simple task for people who wish to take advantage of homemade solar energy. Black plastic hoses coiled in the heat of the day will heat the water inside to a temperature that will be more than needed to shower or warm a pool.

Making a box lined with aluminum foil will create an effective but slow grill or broiler for the barbecue as well. Not a great need for technological skill here, but try this in summer and amaze the neighbors!

The next step towards using homemade solar energy is nearly as simple. Thermal panels can be constructed from a black painted radiator set in a box facing the sun at an angle of 30˚.

Copper tubes that have water slowly trickling through them are attached to the rear of the radiator and with a small pump the heated water can be sent to a well insulated
storage tank for use within the home.

Showers, kitchen faucets and most washing purposes can be supplied on a continual basis even if the sun hasn’t been very strong for a day or so.

An even more effective form of homemade solar energy is the evacuated tube collection system, quite easy for the DIY enthusiast to attempt as a project. It is very similar to the flat plate collector to look at, but with a vacuum tube that has a heat conductor attached to more
efficiently trap any sun’s energy. The movement of water here is similar to a heat exchange system, and while certainly more expensive the energy can be stored and released more effectively.

The ultimate in homemade solar energy is to use a photo voltaic cell to produce electric power. This form of renewable energy is one of the cleanest and efficient with a truly environmental positive effect.

Simple systems using a little technical expertise will provide a substantial amount of the energy needs of a household during most of the year. The bigger the cells and the more that are linked together, then the greater potential for supply of a home’s needs.

Homemade solar energy will demand little alteration to the look or structure of the home.

Installation on the roof is an obvious site, but strengthening won’t be needed. The primary requirement is to avoid shade and the possible effect of overhanging tree branches.

Some people have been so proud of the look of the solar panels that they have incorporated them into sculptures on raised areas in the garden as evidence of their desire to be green pioneers.

The advances in systems for homemade solar energy have been striking in the last decade. No longer are these expensive toys for the enthusiast, but efficient and convenient ways to save on utility bills.

Previously the cells could be unreliable and dependent only on having strong sunlight which made them all but useless in the cold of a winter’s day. Now homemade solar energy is available nearly all year round, and at less than 50 per cent of the cost of a few decades ago.

Of course, if we consider that solar energy has been used for thousands of years to dry meat and grains for use out of season – then we can see that there is really little new under the sun after all.

For the last two hundred years, the world has indulged on fossil fuel as its main source of energy; therefore today the once unlimited supply is limited. The supplies dwindled as many nations grew. The developing nations along with ever expanding developed nations needed more energy. Thus, as the supply of fossil fuels went down the demand for energy is ever present. Government and environmentalist are now cautioning people of the need for alternative measures to keep up with the demand. People are now focusing on the advantages of renewable energy and the question if it’s a real source of power that they can utilize is immense.

In recent discovery it is established that fossil fuels have done great extensive damage in our environment. However, no damage is more apparent than that of global warning which scientist has made a direct correlation with the use fossil fuels. Global warming induces an unstable earth that impacts the life all plant and animal species including human. Global warming also changes weather pattern which include heat waves, hurricane and droughts.

If seeking additional knowledge on Global warming I would suggest renting the award winning documentary “Inconvenient Truth”. This would surely prompt you to incorporate renewable energy when building your home or make changes to existing homes to become energy efficient.

The fact that renewable energy is a clean green form of energy that produces minimal carbon footprint is one of the greatest advantages of renewable energy. Due to this many people are joining the positive sentiment and choosing to use solar, wind or geothermal energy.

In this current job crisis you would still find many jobs being created with the use of renewable energy and those would likely be maintained with the United States. Additionally these positions would offer good pay and benefits with gainful experience.

People who choose to install renewable energy technology are benefiting from tax credits and government incentives which make for another key advantage of renewable energy. To date they are federal tax credit available for those who utilize solar power. The federal tax credits make up thirty percent of the value of solar system which could be used for commercial or residential property.

The value of people using renewable energy is very important because it allows for them to prevent further damage to the world and adding to global warming. Therefore, the means for affordable renewable energy system is present. Many people are now environmentally conscious and choose to promote green communities.

Green communities improve the environment and the world we live in. The communities promote different policies that would help to be more energy efficient and cut down on pollution. Additionally, the National Geographic produces a document called “Green Guide” that raise different issues and also lists the top ten green cities. New planning and execution on your part can make your city listed in this year’s guide.

They are many advantages to renewable energy, enough to speak for hours; but let’s discuss the disadvantages. The main disadvantage is that its crazy expensive to install renewable energy technology and only those with disposable income could afford the $20,000 tag for pv solar systems.
